Foster+partners have teamed with Apple to build several of its stores all around the world. The latest project is located in San Francisco, Apple Union Square.
The opening of this store reflects Apple’s continuous evolution, this building aims to bring together local community to enjoy better experience beyond opportunistic retail. We really love the open space design, it offers new levels of transparency, openness, and civic generosity. The company says that Apple Union Square would be the first model for future projects worldwide. The interior design theme is the result of a close collaboration between Jonathan Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, and Angela Ahrendts, senior vice president of Retail and Online Stores and Foster + Partners. If you live in SF, you’’ll find this store is an incredible site, stimulating space that blurs the boundary between inside and outside.
Apple wants you to experience Apple’s products and services while enjoying the buzz of Union Square on one side and relaxing in the quietness of the new plaza on the other. Love those large steel framed glass sliding doors, they encourage natural ventilation throughout the store where fresh air is drawn through the integrated structural spine then expelled out through the roof. You will be amazed by those glass staircases located on either side of the store, the innovative structure makes them look like floating glass steps. Apple Union Square store is powered by 100% renewable energy produced by 130 photovoltaic panels integrated into the building’s roof.
